About Kala:

Kala is the curator and host of luxury, small-group wellness retreats centered around accessible, beginner-friendly practices, biodynamic + organic food and beverage exploration, adventure, relaxation, and pure enjoyment!

Kala traveled to Bali multiple times over the course of two years to immersively study Tantric Hatha Yoga, which uniquely blends subtle body energy work + the thoughtful use of the physical body as a potent, gentle, and effective combination practice. She specifically uses said practice to help clients address mental health imbalances related to stress, anxiety, depression, and grief. Kala specializes in working with clients who are either entirely new to Yoga, or who are looking to reestablish a healthy foundation in their already-existing practices.

She has spent 15 years traveling, teaching, and exploring diet, lifestyle, yoga, meditation, and wellness in places around the world including LA & NYC, Bali, South Korea, Italy, Ghana, Mexico, England, South Africa, Czech Republic, India, and more. She aims to make all of her offerings as equitable and inclusive as possible by operating via an Equity Pay Scale (EPS) whenever possible, which allows attendees to join at, above, or below the advertised rate. See below for additional information, or to contribute to the EPS fund and support someone attending a future offering.

Please e-mail Kala to join an upcoming retreat, if your group/company would like a private retreat curated and hosted by Kala, and with all filming inquiries.

Equitable Access:

In an effort to both be as accessible as possible to all, regardless of socioeconomic status, etc., as well as to fairly and generously be compensated for my time, effort, and energy that is steeped into everything I do, I offer an Equity Pay Scale when/where possible.

I have been fighting for social change and social justice, and equitable access to quality yoga for all since entering into this work. I feel most at home navigating this challenge through my nonprofit work with Yoga to Cope, but wanted to find a way to implement equity into the for-profit work I do as well.

Equality means three people get the same box to stand on to see over a fence, regardless of overall circumstance. Equity means one adult who can stand doesn’t need a box to see, one small child gets two boxes as they need both to see, and one person gets a ramp because they’re in a wheelchair. Equal pay-for-programming does not meet the global population where it’s at right now, nor does it positively contribute to the deep need for social justice in the yoga sphere, but Equitable Access, in my opinion, can.

As well, it is very important to me as a professional in this chosen industry to value my professional peers and myself and what goes in to every session, retreat, course, and so forth. I don’t feel that qualified yoga professionals are valued or paid fairly for the good work and extensive continued education and training that some of us put in to our work. Earning tens of dollars per studio class and making every offering “budget friendly” is not the best way to value my personal efforts and education. My background, degrees, certifications, continued education and training, and experience grant me the right to ask for higher price points in exchange for my teaching, and thus the opportunity to build wealth and to be valued, as any qualified professional should be.

The Equity Pay Scale benefits all of you as much as it benefits me. It takes the sliding scale model and creates another necessary layer, which is the option to overpay/pay it forward. Thank you to those of you who have already contributed monetarily to the benefit of someone else, making them able to access my teaching that they otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford. If you have questions about this scale or would like to contribute to a course or other offering on behalf of someone else, please don’t hesitate to email me.
